Review

Provence is a region of southeastern France. Its Mediterranean
coast—the Cфte d’Azur—is well known as the French Riviera, an
area of such great scenic beauty, mild climate, and rich subtropical
vegetation that it has become the chief resort region of France and the
fashionable playground of Western Europe.

The guidebook begins with a general section covering the province’s
history. This is followed by practical information about customs
regulations, currency, health, safety, and outdoor activities. The rest
of the book is divided into 13 chapters—one for each of the
province’s regions. Each chapter provides specific information on
local beaches, outdoor activities, accommodations, restaurants,
entertainment, and shopping. The book concludes with a French glossary
and a handy index.

There are lots of maps but no illustrations, and the type is fairly
small. Nevertheless, Provence, Cфte d’Azur is packed with
information, and would be particularly useful for those interested in
tailoring a trip to their individual tastes and budget.
