Review

In 1994, the author was diagnosed with a form of cancer called carcinoid
syndrome. The shock of diagnosis was followed by a round of tests to
clarify the diagnosis and a series of nasty treatments. The
“rollercoaster” emotions Tefs experienced as his life was turned
upside down eventually gave way to a sense of equilibrium with the
disease and his life.

This is not a resource book. There is little hard information about
either the disease or the treatments. The narrative is also somewhat
disjointed, making it difficult to follow the sequence of events. Still,
Rollercoaster offers many insights into the author’s experience of
cancer and in particular his emotional responses to it. As such, it will
be of considerable interest to readers who are undergoing similar
journeys.
