Review

This second annual Bent Guide offers little improvement on the first.
Guides to lesbian and gay resources, like many travel reference guides,
are quickly dated. Though published in late 1995, this guide contains
numerous businesses and service establishments (in Ontario) that are
defunct or inaccurately described.

The entries for gay/lesbian-owned or gay/lesbian-positive businesses
are listed by province, then by city, and finally by category within the
city. These include bookstores, bars, restaurants, accommodations, and
some community and information hotlines, as well as miscellaneous
references. The inclusion of an introduction to each province is clearly
intended for visitors to Canada.

For those planning a visit to a large Canadian centre, there are gay
and lesbian information resources being continually updated on-line as
well as more up-to-date resources in print. The Bent Guide is far from
an insider’s guide to gay/lesbian culture and life in Canada.
