Review

Evelyn Jacks is the author of 30 books on personal finance, tax
preparation, and tax planning for Canadians. Her latest book shows that
if you are focused and serious about tax planning, you can actually make
and save money.

Jacks outlines key tax planning strategies: organizing your tax
documents throughout the year, understanding the tax vocabulary, keeping
up with new tax legislation, recognizing changing family situations that
will affect your tax planning, creating a tax-efficient investment
portfolio, keeping safely tucked away your audit-proof, receipt-based
claims, and developing a plan for long-term tax savings. She explains
how to prepare your tax return so as to reap the maximum tax benefits.
She also addresses the different kinds of taxpayers. Those who have no
taxable income, she points out, should still file a return in order to
receive such benefits as the GST rebate, the Child Tax Benefit, and
certain provincial credits.

Even tax attorneys often have trouble navigating the complicated world
of tax legislation. This user-friendly book offers some welcome
guidance.
