Review

Dawn Hanna is a seasoned outdoor enthusiast and hiking columnist who has
penned a great family-friendly walking guide to British Columbia’s
beautiful Lower Mainland and beyond.

Fifty parks and hiking trails are detailed. The walks are grouped by
geographic location, covering all the best natural areas from Admiralty
Point to Yew Lake. The entry for each walk includes traveling directions
from Vancouver, level of difficulty, a washroom guide, trip highlights,
and other information (such as bringing the dog and whether the trail is
stroller friendly). Within the trail descriptions are details regarding
natural flora and fauna and stories of early settlers. Color maps and a
profusion of color photos aid with plant identification and orientation
to the surrounding area. An introductory chapter provides concise,
relevant information on the basics of hiking, including advice for
clothing, hiking equipment, and promoting safe encounters with wildlife.

More than a tour book, Easy Hikes and Walks of Southwestern British
Columbia is a dependable, enjoyable guide to discovering and
appreciating the wilderness that surrounds Vancouver. The guide will
entertain and inform all hikers, while helping to ensure that the trail
experience is safe and fun. A must-have reference for families living in
the area and tourists who come to visit.
