Review

Set in the year 1755, this fast-paced and emotionally draining work of
historical fiction tells the story of three remarkable characters:
Acadian Eulalie La Tour, Andre Melanson, and British soldier Cully
Robin. The novel’s three parts chronicle Eulalie’s journey away from
Acadia as she attempts to save her family and finally her struggle to
return to her native land. Eulalie and Cully cross paths and fall in
love, despite the mounting tensions of international war, the
displacement of the Acadian people, and Andre and Eulalie’s proclaimed
love for each other. Vivid description and rich character development
underpin Silver’s spellbinding tale of love, war, and the search for
identity.
