Hollywood starlet Emma Fine drops out of sight after the body of her
lover, Ted Weaver, is found floating in her swimming pool. Ted’s wife,
Bridget, who bears more than a passing resemblance to Emma, is also
missing.
Ten years later, tabloid reporter Bruce Dermott chances upon Emma on a
busy street and decides that the vanished celebrity is his ticket to
big-league journalism. As he investigates Emma’s story, Bruce is
confronted with deception, depravity, and body doubles. Just as
confusing is his personal life, which is complicated by the sudden
arrival of his troubled teenaged son and the ex-wife he still loves.
Michelle Berry’s second novel is fast-paced, with as many twists and
turns as a corkscrew (even at the end, we don’t really know who killed
Ted Weaver). The constant shifts between the present and the events of a
decade ago can be confusing, so read Blur in one or two sittings in
order to better keep track of what’s happening.
