Review

There’s no great mystery as to why Challen wrote this book. The West
Wing, a television show about White House politics, has earned a
reputation as one of the few intelligent and challenging dramas out
there, notable for the quality of its writing. Challen explores many
aspects of the show (cast, production, consultants, criticisms, web
presence), but offers little significant analysis. Particularly
disappointing is his portrait of creator/writer Aaron Sorkin, the
show’s driving force. Still, Inside the West Wing is a respectable
introduction. It includes an episode guide that provides succinct
summaries and major highlights of the show.
