Review

Memories of the Old Home Place is a beautiful coffee-table book that
wonderfully presents in prose and pictures the rich heritage and culture
of Prince Edward Island, known variously as the “Garden of the Gulf”
and the “Cradle of Confederation.”

Who better qualified to compile this book than Professor Francis
Bolger, who provides a text that is variously political, social,
domestic, full of incident, and not without a quiet humor on occasion.
Superb photographs by Wayne Barrett and Anne MacKay capture the
Island’s way of life and rural character. Many of their shots are
simply exquisite.

In brief, here is a book to be recommended for home, school, and public
libraries across Canada and, not least, to the million and a quarter
visitors annually to the Island.
