Review
This book won Sheri Benning the Saskatchewan Book Awards for the best
collection of poetry and best first book, making her work doubly
blessed. Her lyrical talent is immediately apparent: she thinks in
images and the poems therefore have the heft of real experience. She
perhaps relies too much on the observation of nature, but the poems
about family are very promising, suggesting that she can apply her keen
sense of the physical world to conveying truths about the natural world.
As Keats said in a famous letter, it “is necessary that years should
bring the philosophic Mind.”
