Review

Katherine Luongo-Orlando brings her 10 years of successful teaching in
elementary classrooms to bear on this book about the project method.
After a brief overview, she looks at the novel, picture books, folklore,
poetry, and nonfiction as source material. Her penultimate chapter
considers ways of telling stories aloud, and her final chapter deals
with assessment and reporting of children’s work. A list of
professional references, sample specimens of children’s literature,
and a useful index are included. The project method is not new, but
Luongo-Orlando’s treatment of it is original. Her book is recommended
for all teachers, especially those supervising students-in-training.
