Review

This book provides one of the most comprehensive overviews and analyses
of key public management reforms in Canada during the past 15 years.

There are three main sections. Part 1 examines the emergence of the
post-bureaucratic organization and public-sector innovation initiatives.
Part 2 explores several dimensions of the “new public organization and
management paradigm”—namely, restructuring and re-engineering,
serving the public, empowerment, consulting, partnerships, continuous
learning, innovation, information technology, and managing public
policy. Part 3 outlines strategies for creating and maintaining
proactive and innovative initiatives in public organizations.

The New Public Organization is a valuable resource for those interested
in management in both the public and the private sectors; each sector
can learn much about management innovations from the other.
