Review

Misled is an amazing collection of writings. While it will be shelved
with poetry, it is full of poems and prose and uncatagorizable pieces of
writing that all celebrate words. At play here are words and their
slippery meanings, and the images and memories they evoke. The woman
using these words is clearly not afraid of using words like
“lesbian” and “pussy,” or of showing herself to be a human full
of confusion and longing. The book itself is lovely to hold and read,
with pages ranging from dense text to short choppy lines with huge
margins.

For all its fascinating literary stylings, Misled is a deep and
thoughtful. There are no easily deconstructed writings or clichéd
modern discourses to be found here. Susan Holbrook is a modern
wordsmith, and this book a beautifully crafted piece.
