Nick Lamp, a young entrepreneur living in Taiwan, wishes to make a
business proposal to Cao Dai, an industrial kingpin and former
acquaintance of Nick’s father. When Nick arrives for the meeting, he
discovers Cao’s murdered body. Panic-stricken, Nick flees the scene of
the crime. Nevertheless, he soon finds himself being pursued by the
Taiwanese police and by Cao’s powerful family. A magazine that Nick
unwittingly removed from Cao’s apartment on the night of the murder
and a photograph of Cao and Nick’s father dating back to their days
together in Shanghai in the 1930s are keys to helping Nick solve Cao’s
murder.

Formosa Straits is a highly intelligent and complex suspense thriller
written by a master storyteller. Hyde weaves together an intricate plot
involving family secrets with the history and politics of China. Highly
recommended.
