Review

Master coach Dave Chambers has used his over 30 years of experience at
every level of hockey to produce almost 300 pages of instructions and
drills. In addition to the traditional explanatory and drill sections on
skating, passing and receiving, shooting, stickhandling and puck
control, checking and goaltending, Chambers offers team-oriented
instruction on face-off assignments, offensive and defensive play for
all positions, as well as guidelines on designing efficient practices,
optimizing power-play chances, and killing off penalties.

Novice and veteran coaches alike will benefit from the author’s
coaching philosophy and office suggestions and directions. Coaches can
use the variety of charts and forms provided to evaluate talent and
performance in an efficient manner, both for team selection and
game-by-game analysis. Examples of dryland conditioning drills,
nutrition requirements, and mental training skills for players are
provided, along with advice on scouting talent, game preparation, and
bench management. The informative text is supplemented by hundreds of
diagrams and illustrations.
