Review

This book of worship resources for individuals and groups is designed to
be easy to use. Readers can find topics in the table of contents, the
subject index, or the scripture index (which lacks page references).
Each service is found in double columns on two facing pages, although
the key content of each is a meditation (or sermon), with minimal space
given to a call to worship, two short prayers, a scripture reference,
and a list or two or three hymns (all from Voices United, the latest
United Church of Canada hymnal).

Follow Me may not be congenial for most Canadian Christians, but it
will appeal to those who might be labeled “liberal.” The Cross of
Christ is almost invisible, but social justice is a frequent theme; the
Canadian Legion would be surprised to learn “we wear a poppy as a
symbol of that pledge to carry the torchlight of peace into a hurting
and hostile world.” Yet, as the service “Out of the Wilderness”
demonstrates, there are some meditations that any Christian would be
open to being touched by.
