Review
In Foreign Correspondences, journalist, columnist, and producer Lesley
Krueger reflects on her travels and life in general. Whether touring in
Nepal or India, residing in Latin America, or visiting other exotic
parts of the planet, Krueger offers a unique slant on a variety of
topics.
Over the years, she experiences marriage and motherhood, discovers a
number of family secrets, and learns exactly what it feels like to be a
residing foreigner. Her multifaceted travel experiences include
surviving earthquakes, visiting with the prima ballerina Dame Margot
Fonteyn, and investigating the Macumba’s religious beliefs. Interwoven
throughout the book are her reflections on her own family history; she
comes to appreciate, and identify with, her Swedish and Scottish
grandmothers who became new Canadians in the early 1900s. Ultimately,
Foreign Correspondences is about the human need to find a sense of place
in the world.
