Review

This handy guide offers more than the standard checklist for people
getting ready to move outside their province or territory. The book is
organized into six parts: Moving Your Vehicle, A Roof Over Your Head, On
the Personal Side, Money Matters, How Did We Get Here?, and How Do We
Compare Today. The topics covered range from information on school
systems and programs for low-income families to renting a home and
health-insurance options. There is a strong focus on the law, making it
easy for the reader to learn about the different rules and regulations
operating in each province or territory.

At times, the information provided goes beyond the scope of its title,
with insertions of historical tidbits, such as how the compromises
between the four original provinces of Canadian Confederation “has
produced many of the regulatory differences that affect people
relocating interprovincially today.” The authors assume that the
reader has basic knowledge about moving: how to get estimates from
moving companies; how to get insurance coverage for a move; how to close
down your household. Depending on the reader’s needs, this guide may
be considered a comprehensive secondary source.
