Review

Horsnell’s book would be appropriate for intermediate and advanced
university students of biblical Hebrew in divinity colleges, or for
serious students of classical languages. Although the book could also be
used by teachers to organize areas for review and discussion, it is
beyond the scope of those studying in conversational Hebrew classes.

The treatment of vocalization (the full range of scripting unique to
Hebrew), syntax, and verbs (the foundation of, and the key to, the
Hebrew language) is thorough, as is the coverage of the other parts of
speech, as well as grammatical terms. A useful bibliography provides
information on the types of texts to be used in conjunction with the
reference grammar.
