Review

Teachers who believe that the computer should be a central component in
the classroom will welcome this book. The authors’ goal is to
“provide answers to your questions about using information and
communication technology for active learning in the classroom.”
Individual chapters cover planning for success, having the proper
equipment, how to get started, assessing students’ progress, working
with Internet-based projects, working with special-needs students, and
suggested technology tools for teachers. Active Learning in the Digital
Age Classroom offers sound lesson plans and a wealth of valuable
information. Unfortunately, a lack of IT funds and severe government
cutbacks suggest that the kind of classroom Heide and Henderson envision
is not likely to be realized in the foreseeable future.
