Review

This useful addition to the Ulysses Travel Guides is a language guide
for travelers in Latin America, as opposed to peninsular Spain. There
are differences in pronunciation of certain sounds, especially
consonants, and even differences in meaning between certain words and
expressions in Castilian Spanish, as compared with the language of the
Southern continent. Cadena’s guide also provides a list of phonetic
spellings and an index of English and Spanish words, as well as an
introduction to Spanish grammar, sounds, accentuation, frequently used
words and phrases, numbers, times, countries, and nationalities.

The guide covers a wide range of topics, including entry formalities at
the airport, transportation, emergencies, money transactions, the
weather, outdoor and indoor activities, accommodation, restaurants,
entertainment, and shopping. The user-friendly format and pocketbook
size enhance the guide’s appeal for the traveler in Latin America.
