Review

Literary Pluralities comprises 24 papers, 11 of which were delivered in
1995 at the Windy Pines Colloquium. Some papers are in French, while
others are in English (the editor’s own contribution appears in both
languages). A wide range of Canadian viewpoints are represented,
including Quebec and First Nations perspectives. Considered in its
entirety, the book serves as a fine introduction to race and ethnicity
issues. The last paper, Nourbese Philip’s “Taming Our Tomorrows,”
presents a vision of a society in which “we are our brothers’ and
sisters’ keepers.” It is a fitting conclusion to a book concerned
with understanding the injustices experienced by racial and ethnic
groups in our society, and using that understanding to create the
conditions for transforming Canada into an inclusive community.
