Review

With this title, the author continues her series of popular paranormal
stories. Although her intent is to inform as well as entertain, her
introductory description of each of the four categories of scary stories
is minimal and gratuitous: she has missed out on the opportunity to
teach, and has chosen the safety of storytelling. The illustrations are
few in number but wonderful and effective.

Almost everything in the collection has been previously published.
Christensen concludes each story with a few comments of her own. In a
postscript to one of the vampire stories, for example, she explains the
various categories of vampirism, including a blood disorder and
“psychic vampirism.” The stories themselves are well written and
easy to read. Their content is tame compared with what is available in
theatres and on television. Like a good movie, the 224 pages came to an
end all too quickly.
