Review

Rhonda Batchelor has written an exquisite series of poems dedicated to
her late husband, Canadian poet Charles Lillard. The book is divided
into three sections: “Vague Happiness,” “Visible Contents,” and
“Still Breathing.” The glimpses of their relationship are sometimes
poignant and sometimes frustrating. Batchelor describes both the ups and
downs of their marriage and gives scenarios that can be easily applied
to anyone’s life. The anguish she feels at her loss is felt by the
reader yet at the same time the strength to go on with her life, living
with her memories, remains clear and vital. Remembering the beautiful
moments, the sensual moments, and the trying moments make a total
picture of a real human relationship.

Weather Report is Batchelor’s third collection of poems. She is the
manager of The Hawthorne Bookshop in Victoria, British Columbia.
