Review

Vixen, one assumes, is the title character, unnamed in any other part of
the book. Vixen is a story of incestuous triangles of desire, of sexual
experimentation and obsession, of sexual slavery (both willing and
not)—all disclosed through miniature chapters often no longer than a
paragraph. What is revealed is Vixen’s damaged soul, caught up in a
cycle of distorted power and lust. Vixen’s insights become
increasingly personal when she finds herself spending time in a mental
institution—more an impression than physically described—and
subsequently begins to seek out her past. In these disturbing,
thought-provoking vignettes, D’anna deftly portrays one woman’s
obsession and pain; her poetic and oddly compelling style make this
story memorable.
