Review

Liz Brady’s first Jane Yeats mystery, Sudden Blow, won the Arthur
Ellis Award for Best First Novel. Her second novel featuring the crime
journalist is set in Toronto’s Little Italy. A recluse by nature, Jane
rapidly becomes more sociable when faced with the need to carry out
firsthand research (her fondness for finding good sources of Irish beer
is a great help). In Bad Date she moves faster than her new Harley
motorcycle into an investigation of a string of unsolved sex
murders—and a wrenching interrogation of her own moral baggage. The
story has as many unexpected twists as a corkscrew, with the surprises
persisting into the final chapter. If you like a fast-paced thriller and
don’t mind racy content and language, this book is for you.
