Review

Sports trivia buffs can never get enough to satisfy them. Even though
this accessible, well-organized book has plenty of trivia to tickle the
mind, it merely whets one’s appetite for more. Each of the book’s 12
chapters represents a sport or group of sports, from baseball,
basketball, and boxing to winter sports such as hockey and figure
skating. A few of the lead-in questions to the trivia are poorly worded
and lead to an obvious conclusion. For example, one of the Winter Sport
questions is, “Did Anne Heggtveit ever win a medal for Canada at the
Olympics?” The answer to questions of this type is obviously yes, or
there would be no point in asking the question. Fortunately, most of the
questions pose a realistic challenge to the reader. More important, the
answers manage to be informative without burying the reader in a
mountain of detail.
