Review

One suspects that this little handbook had to come sooner or later,
particularly when one has a long-serving prime minister who has been in
politics for 40 years and who in his own words murders both official
languages.

Quotations from Chairman Jean is another of those books in which the
words of the subject are displayed in such a way as to appear humorous.
Does this book succeed? Well perhaps, but there have been better ones in
the past. True, Jean Chrétien is often misunderstood, although one
suspects this is frequently not an accident. As the authors point out,
“incoherence poses no barrier to [his] political success.”

The book is the sort of publication that ends up in the bathroom and
not on the desks of serious political observers, unless they are Paul
Martin supporters.
