Review

This annual collection of mini-profiles of the top 70 players in the
National Hockey League is really a glorified magazine, in format as well
as price. Top-notch photographs by Dan Hamilton dresses up brief,
chatty, two-page profiles of each player. The profiles are divided into
categories by position and style of play (“masked marvels” are
goalies, “blueline attack” includes offensive defencemen,
“hitmen” are checking specialists, etc.). The book’s brash, flashy
design suggests quick reference rather than continuous study. Designed
for channel surfers (tire of one theme, and flip to another), Hockey
Now! has minimal lasting value, but it will no doubt appeal to younger
NHL fanatics.
