Review

Allen Clarke isn’t new to the investing game. He begins this book by
recounting his experiences in the trading world. In Chapter 1, he
discusses the reasons for investing, the risks involved, and the role of
investing in your retirement plans. The reader’s knowledge of
investing is tested in Chapter 2, which provides a broad range of
essential facts and trivia. The next two chapters cover the basics of
setting up a portfolio and present tips on how to make that portfolio
succeed. Chapter 3 discusses asset diversification, selecting a money
manager (mutual funds), and choosing—and sticking with—an investment
strategy. Subsequent chapters provide “rules” intended to help the
investor preserve capital (e.g., trading is not a game, don’t trade
too often, and the market is always right) and “pearls of wisdom”
from gurus in the business.
