Review

Written by a regular contributor to various family-oriented magazines,
Kids Vancouver is a reference guide to children’s activities and
parent survival services in the Greater Vancouver area. The first two
chapters set the scene with tips on local travel and neighborhood areas.
The next five chapters review activities and games for outside and
inside play. For families who like to venture out, there are suggestions
on where to eat and where to sleep. For the shopaholics, there are 30
pages devoted to reviewing the best shops for kids’ toys, clothing,
and accessories. Following this are the parent survival chapters, which
cover everything from babysitter and daycare services, to tutors and
maid service, to diaper services and home support. The final chapters
include a community events calendar and lists of emergency care services
and family places such as libraries and recreation centres.

Families already residing in Vancouver will benefit most from this
book. What is missing for the touring family are some half- or full-day
itineraries that link play activities, shopping, and eating into one
area, preferably near a hotel to allow for pit stops and naps. Still,
every city should have a guide such as this one to help keep visitors
informed—and sane—amid the urban bustle.
