Review

This guide is intended to help parents smooth the transition for their
child from home/daycare to the school environment. The author, a school
principal, addresses such practical matters as registration procedures,
curriculum guidelines, interviews, report cards, volunteering in the
classroom, and safety issues. He also provides valuable advice on
preparing the child both physically (e.g., nutritious snacks,
appropriate clothing) and emotionally (making new friends, school
performance), and on the importance of parent- staff relations.

This crisp, cheerful, and organized guide covers all the concerns a
parent could have. And although the book’s title and cover
illustration (which features a child with a sad face standing beside his
equally sad-faced pet in front of a building labeled “skool”) may
discourage some parents, those who turn the cover will discover a useful
and informative guide.
