Review

Iridium Seeds is the author’s poetic response to the death of her
mother. The ample white spaces on the pages, the sparse and often
fragmentary phrases, the fleeting images of observation and memory, the
carefully contrived disposition of the text across the pages—all these
serve to induce a meditative silence for the contemplation of the
process of death and its aftermath. The poems form not so much a
statement as a graphic of life, dying, and mourning; it is as though so
much of what is “felt in the blood and felt along the heart” cannot
be adequately stated in print. While not all readers will respond
wholeheartedly to the style of presentation and the lack of fully
resolved articulation, Iridium Seeds is for the most part a delicate,
touching, and imaginative collection.
