Review

Solitary Dancer is Reynolds’s fifth novel featuring Joe McGuire. No
longer a cop with the Boston Police Department, Joe has hit rock bottom.
He is addicted to painkillers and he counts drug dealers, prostitutes,
and strippers among his acquaintances. Things are tough; but they get
even worse when Joe is suspected of viciously murdering his ex-wife’s
sister. In a bid to find the real murderer, Joe is drawn back into the
world of police investigation.

Solitary Dancer was my first encounter with Reynolds’s work. This
novel certainly reinforces his reputation as a first-rate crime writer.
For those who like their mysteries hardboiled, Reynolds delivers a
brilliantly crafted story that has sharp dialogue; well-developed,
interesting characters; and a plot that sets the reader on a race to the
last page.
