Review

As a young man, Don Stephenson nearly perished in the wreck of a 29-foot
sloop en route from Halifax to Bermuda. In later life, he helped to
deliver a Swan 60 from Lisbon to Antigua. The obvious highlight of his
sailing career occurred near the end of his life, when he equipped and
captained his own vessel in the famous race from Marblehead,
Massachusetts, to Halifax. Not only did he win his class, but his was
the first such victory by a schooner in recent times.

These events are related in a rather pedestrian style. The account of
the race is the most interesting. With library shelves already well
stocked with books about sailing by such authors as Chichester, Roth,
Hitchcock, and Chiles, it is unlikely that this slim volume will find
much space.
