Review

This book, which claims to be the ultimate guide to the National Hockey
League, includes complete NHL player and team statistics (for 1993-94
regular and post-season play); top draft picks; analysis of players,
teams, and coaches; and hockey pool information. The book contains some
interesting anecdotes, but little else. The statistics it provides are
widely available and serve little purpose in this format. For example,
we learn that Les Candor is the first NHL goalie with the name of Les
since Les Brinkley in the 1970s. The author comes across more as a fan
with a passion for hockey than as an analytical and critical observer of
the game. His book is not recommended for the reader who demands an
intensive study of the sport of hockey.
