Review

The Unitrade Press continues to enrich its indispensable catalogue of
Canada and pre-Confederation British North America stamps, and the
latest edition marks a major improvement over the previous volume. After
receiving “many letters” that “voiced disappointment” over the
lack of color in last year’s annual, the editors have decided to
“change to full size, full-coloured illustrations.”

Regular postage stamps are listed (using the Scott Catalogue Numbering
System) to October 1994, and priced in Canadian dollars according to a
variety of criteria. The editors also list and illustrate such
peripherals as semi-postage stamps (e.g., wildlife conservation stamps),
air mail, complete booklets, registration, postage due, war-tax stamps,
special delivery, reply coupons, prison-of-war free franks, (the newly
added) precancels, and even Canada Post souvenir articles. Different
kinds of postmarks are described, and a variety of philatelic terms is
explained for the novitiate.

In addition to the color illustrations on nearly every page, the 1995
catalogue has been increased in size by almost 100 pages. This has
sharply increased the cost, but philatelists will still find it a
bargain.
