Review
This gorgeous coffee-table book of all-color photographs is the third
volume (the first two being Prairie Light and Prairie Dreams) in
Milne’s trilogy of the Canadian Prairie landscape.
Milne’s extraordinary skills with a camera, his deep feeling, and the
inspiration he derives from the big, vaulted prairie sky are
demonstrated in each of the 120 color plates. The photographs are
meticulously composed, thematically arranged, and breathtakingly
beautiful in their stark, clean, uncluttered simplicity. They also
reflect Milne’s enormous patience in waiting for just the right light
to capture the awesome array of moods and colors.
Each plate has a brief caption, while Milne’s pithy, insightful
reflections on the various photographs, sites, and conditions add warmth
and intimacy to the book’s overall tone.
This superbly produced book cannot fail to evoke a favorable response
in any reader.
