Review

Todd is a parochial cartoonist in the finest sense. His work,
distributed throughout Canada by Southam, comments on national and
international issues but retains the refined flavor of the dry wit that
typifies the Atlantic Canada humor. This, Todd’s first anthology, is a
remarkable collection of the best of his work between 1989 and 1993.

Most editorial cartoons are enjoyed specifically for contemporary
topical humor. However, when assembling a collection, editors must
choose cartoons that comment on issues of enduring significance. Poll
Cats meets this criterion and is, moreover, a bibliophile’s delight,
well bound and beautifully printed. Todd’s highly distinctive and
cleanly personalized style would display well, and meaningfully, beside
the best work of Duncan Macpherson.
