Review

Good, well-told stories about real people are the essence of history and
the creation of a sense of place and community. With an obvious love for
the Cariboo–Chilcotin region, Irene Stangoe has collected a number of
interesting yarns about the people who collectively created the Cariboo.

The author, an experienced newspaper publisher and history columnist,
demonstrates a deep and detailed knowledge of the region and its people.
Written in lively prose and generously illustrated, the book begins with
the early white settlement period. It contains two stories about Native
people and more than two-dozen tales of newcomers. All the anecdotes are
short and will have great appeal to people in the region and to its many
visitors.
