Review

This anthology consists of prize-winning poems from 1992, as chosen by
the prestigious League of Canadian Poets. It is a companionable book, to
be picked up and sampled at leisure. The prevailing themes are those of
daily life, personal, social, domestic, ecological. All the poems are
pleasingly descriptive, and while the collection as a whole portrays a
wide range of emotion, in Shelley’s words, “[the] sweetest songs are
those that tell of saddest thought.”
