Review

This is an engaging little memoir from a writer with 43 years of
experience on the Canadian scene. Collins has written for newspapers,
magazines, and book publishers, and has been employed as an editor at
Maclean’s, Imperial Oil Review, Reader’s Digest, and Toronto Life.
Who He? is filled with anecdotes about the writing game. We learn of the
“breaks” that assisted Collins in his writing career (one involving
Pierre Berton) and of the rejections that devastated him. (It took
Collins years to get over his firing from Maclean’s in 1958.) One
wishes only that Collins had devoted more space to his book-writing
experiences.
