Review

This guide provides a wealth of sound advice for both experienced and
novice travelers, and although the book is addressed to those over 50,
much of what it says applies to all groups. It is arranged under four
main headings: “Before You Go,” “Getting There,” “You’ve
Arrived,” and “Travel Trends of the Nineties.” Appendices include
names, addresses, and phone numbers of many organizations, government
and private, that can assist in planning or make bookings.

The writers are old hands at travel, and enthusiastically provide
helpful hints to solve dilemmas about foreign food and medical
treatment, even if some readers may wonder whether the results always
justify the efforts. Certain recommendations may appear obvious to one
person but will come as totally new suggestions to another.

The book’s contents are solid, practical, and reliable, even if one
or two minor statements are open to question. This is a useful handbook,
and anyone planning a trip, short or long, will benefit from its timely
advice.
