Ashley Thomson is a full librarian at Laurentian University and co-editor or co-author of nine books, most recently Margaret Atwood: A Reference Guide, 1988-2005.

This book must be useful to those interested in selling privately,
because this is its fifth edition. Written by a lawyer who has completed
more than 4500 real estate transactions, it emphasizes the legal aspects
of house selling. Though this aspect is significant, the guide would be
more logically organized if Chapters 3 (financing considerations), 4
(putting it in writing), and 5 (getting legal help) were placed after
Chapter 11 (applying the simple selling strategies). In addition, more
practical examples would have been welcome: it is fine to talk about the
importance of effective advertising, but it would have been useful to
have provided some examples of ads that worked.
