Review

This profusely illustrated book describes the steamboats that traveled
the waterways of Nor-thern Ontario, especially those of Lakes Nipissing,
Temagami, and Timiskaming. In addition to passenger steamers, the book
also examines the numerous small tugs and barges that served the
pulpwood, lumbering, and mining industries. While the author has done a
thorough job in documenting the services provided by these vessels,
there are a number of discrepancies between his text and the information
given in the Mills List, an authoritative reference source. Several
illustrations are mislabeled as well. These caveats aside, the book is
well written and provides a more accurate account of its subject than
does any other recent work.
