Review

This book makes a convincing case for the necessity of a nutritional
diet and food supplements in both maintaining and recovering health. The
author underscores reluctance on the part of the medical fraternity to
accept the research findings of nutritionists, recalling that it took 40
years and another 100,000 dead sailors before the implementation of the
research findings on the role of Vitamin C in scurvy prevention.

Among the topics the book addresses are dietary diseases resulting from
low fibre, high sugar, and high fat; vitamin and mineral deficiencies;
excessive additives, food allergies, and nutrition supplements; and food
sources for vitamins, minerals, and amino and essential fatty acids.

Dr. Hoffer gives convincing answers to such vexing nutritional questions
as why the literature on the role and value of supplements is sometimes
contradictory and why the daily recommended requirements for supplements
are inconsistent.

All in all, a well-researched, comprehensive, and persuasive guide to
nutrition.
