Literary agent Lyn and her best-selling client spend the Christmas
season with friends in a village on the west coast of Wales. Among the
villagers are a dealer in antiques, a Booker Prize nominee, a reclusive
playwright, a young widow and her infant son, and a local farmer and his
wife. The Welsh coast, with its ancient castle and legends of King
Arthur and Merlin, of dragons and battles long ago, provides an
interesting backdrop for the story. Lyn, who is mourning the death of
her son, is having recurring dreams of a crying child and a lady in blue
begging her to look after him. At the same time, she is concerned by the
young widow’s claim that someone is trying to steal her infant.
Named of the Dragon is both a love story and a mystery. The resolution
of the mystery is less than satisfactory. Enhancing this otherwise
delightful book are believable dialogue and vivid and eerie descriptions
of the Welsh countryside.
