Review

This sequel to Slapshots contains some 140 entries of amusing hockey
miscellanea, principally associated with people and events connected to
the National Hockey League. Much of the small-sized book is organized
into facing pages that feature a series of contrasts, such as “Nosiest
Coach” and “Least Nosey Player,” “Worst Spear” and “Best
Spear,” “Best French-English Commentator” and “Worst
English-French Commentator.” The book also features lists on such
unlikely topics as the “Worst Wigs,” the “Best Ukrainian
Goalies,” the “Best Ukrainian Nickname,” and “101 Best Hockey
Baby Names,” along with a 14-page annotated “Best and Worst Guide to
Canadian and American Hockey Movies.” As well, Cole offers readers a
“Toughest WHA Quiz,” which calls for readers to remember the names
of the World Hockey Association teams, and two comic
booklets—“Jacques Plante” and “The Bobby Orr Story”—which
were originally included in 1972 packages of O-Pee-Chee hockey cards and
gum, are reproduced in black and white.

More Slapshots is an ideal book for filling those idle commercial
breaks during playoff games.
