Review

This guide for cross-country skiers features 21 trails in Southern
Ontario. Some of the trails are commercial, but others are in public
parks or wildlife areas, and most are located north of the Barrie area.
Each description includes the length of the trail, time required to ski
it, level of difficulty (from novice to expert), topography, special
features, clear directions on how to get to the trailhead by car, local
facilities available, and cost of the trail pass. Unfortunately, the
maps of the skiing trails are virtually useless: too schematic, too
small in scale, too crabbed in appearance. Despite this limitation, the
guide is a sound introduction to some of the most popular cross-country
skiing areas in Ontario’s southern region.
