Review

Montreal is the titular city in this police procedural thriller. After
one of his informants is found brutally murdered, Sergeant-Detective
Emile Cinq-Mars becomes caught up in a deadly battle between rival
motorcycle gangs, the Mafia, and Russian immigrant gangsters—a battle
involving bombings, kidnappings, murder, and the suborning of police and
civilians. Aside from fighting criminals, Cinq-Mars must cope with
evidence of corruption in his own force and the intervention of the CIA.

The author conveys an intimate knowledge of the city and its police
force. He also provides considerable insight into the conflict between
French and English people in that city. This well-written and
fast-moving tale is a gripping read.
